Farm Buildings

The Blacksmiths shop

The ‘Smithy’ was one of the most important buildings on any farm in the 1800s. This building was the first to be restored at Terrace Station.

The Swaggers' Hut, Ploughman's Caravan ('Stinky') and Stables

These three buildings show a glimpse of farm life in the 1800s.

The 1885 Swaggers' Hut was used for itinerant single men who moved from farm to farm looking for work.
Read more about the Swaggers' Hut.

When the ploughman had to work a distance from home, he took his team of horses and a caravan and camped by a stream. The caravan became known as a 'Stinky'.
The Carriage House

This building displays horse-drawn family vehicles of the 1800s and some of the late Richard Foster’s veteran and vintage cars and also motoring memorabilia.
