Women’s Suffrage event reprise

Picture
Last year we worked with Kate Shephard House (Te Whare Waiutuutu) to celebrate Women’s Suffrage Day with a special event. It was so popular we have decided to give people another chance to visit both venues and learn more about two of the key people behind the successful suffrage petition.

Private Lives, Public Roles: John Hall and Kate Sheppard at home
This event will take you into the homes and hearts of Kate Sheppard and John Hall – two of the most influential advocates in the fight for women’s suffrage.

Two expert speakers, Helen Osborne (property lead at Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House) and Kate Foster, (family historian and John Hall’s great granddaughter) will share the stories of Kate Sheppard’s and John Hall’s personal histories, private lives and relationships, right in the homes where they lived.

20 September 2026 Kate Sheppard House - hear about Kate Sheppard and John Hall with optional guided tours of Kate Sheppard House and garden.
Time: 1pm - 3.30pm

27 September 2026 Terrace Station - visit the home of John Hall, see inside his office and walk through the extensive garden.
Bring a picnic lunch and take time to sit and relax.

Time: 12pm - 3pm

More details will be coming soon.

Open Garden Sundays

We also have regular Open Garden Sundays during spring and early summer.
